La Colorada Beach
Playa de las Coloradas stretches along the southern coast of Lanzarote, within the municipality of Yaiza, in an area of volcanic landscape that retains its natural character. Its dark, medium-grained sand, formed by the erosion of volcanic picón, creates a marked contrast with the golden tones of other nearby southern beaches.
The most prominent feature of this spot is the Castillo de las Coloradas, an 18th-century fortified tower built on a small hill beside the shore. This defensive structure, part of the island's coastal surveillance system, dominates the landscape and serves as a visual landmark from several points in the surrounding area. The beach itself combines stretches of sand with sections of gravel and volcanic stone.
The location sits in a less urbanized environment than other southern coastal areas, lending it a quieter atmosphere. Its proximity to the Papagayo beaches, located a few kilometers to the west, makes this sector part of a route along Lanzarote's southern coast, where you can appreciate the variety of substrates and volcanic formations that characterize the island's shoreline.
