Reserva Natural Integral de Inagua
The Inagua Integral Nature Reserve covers nearly 4,000 hectares of native Canary Island pine forest in the mountainous interior of Gran Canaria, spanning the municipalities of Tejeda, Mogán and La Aldea de San Nicolás. It holds the highest level of protection of any natural area in the archipelago, designated as a Special Area of Conservation, Special Protection Area for Birds and a Core Zone of the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve.
This reserve is home to the Gran Canaria blue chaffinch, an endemic subspecies in danger of extinction that lives only in these pine forests. You'll also find the jarilla de Inagua, a plant that exists nowhere else on Earth. The Canary pine forest forms a unique ecosystem, with altitudes exceeding 1,400 meters and mountain landscapes that reflect the island's natural diversity.
Access to this integral reserve is regulated and restricted to scientific and conservation purposes, specifically to protect the species and ecological processes that make it so valuable. You can find more information about its management and features on the Cabildo de Gran Canaria website.
