Barranco los Canarios
Barranco de los Canarios is a natural watercourse that runs through the municipality of Pájara, in south-central Fuerteventura. Like other island barrancos, it flows through an arid, volcanic landscape shaped by scarce rainfall and drought-resistant vegetation.
Its course connects the highland interior with the coast, tracing a valley that remains dry most of the year. During heavy rains, water flows briefly along its bed, carving the earth and rock walls that define these channels. The name recalls the historic presence of scattered rural settlements in the area.
You can walk part of its route along traditional paths linking small hamlets. The setting allows you to observe the island's geology and see how water has shaped the terrain over centuries, leaving sediment deposits and forming natural terraces.
