Las Malvas Beach

BeachesOutdoors / Nature

Playa de Las Malvas lies in the municipality of Tinajo, on the west coast of Lanzarote, within a volcanic landscape shaped by lava flows from Timanfaya National Park. You'll reach this small black-sand cove after driving roughly five kilometres along a dirt track that crosses solidified lava fields, a passable route by car that hints at the wild character of the coast ahead.

The dark sand here is formed by the erosion of volcanic rock, and in places you'll spot olivine crystals scattered across the beach. This is a natural, undeveloped site with strong waves that make swimming inadvisable most of the time. The sense of isolation is real: visitor numbers are low and there are no facilities nearby.

The dirt-track approach, typical of rural Lanzarote, cuts through a terrain of lava and sparse vegetation that echoes the moon-like interior of the island. The beach sits framed by volcanic rock formations and offers open views over the Atlantic, in a corner where nature remains largely untouched.
