El Pozo

BeachesOutdoors / Nature

Playa del Pozo is located in the municipality of Yaiza, in southern Lanzarote, and is a black sand beach of volcanic origin reached after a roughly 3-kilometer walk along the cliffs of Los Ajaches. The trail crosses an arid, solitary landscape with no shade or services, so you should bring water and sun protection.

When you arrive you'll find a strip of dark volcanic sand surrounded by rocky walls, facing the Atlantic. The beach is usually quite quiet, with few visitors due to the distance and effort required to reach it. There are no beach bars, showers, or lifeguards—just the natural scenery of Lanzarote's southern coast.

Keep in mind that the surf can be strong and currents variable, common features of ocean-facing beaches in this part of the island. The return involves the same walk back, so plan your time and energy accordingly before heading down.
