El Caletón

BeachesOutdoors / Nature

Playa del Caletón is located in La Matanza de Acentejo, on the northern coast of Tenerife, and forms part of the volcanic landscape typical of this area of the island. Here you won't find an extensive sandy beach, but rather a succession of natural pools formed by lava rocks that the sea has shaped over time.

Access is via Carretera el Caletón, and the setting is open, with hardly any nearby urban infrastructure. The rocky formations allow bathing on calm days, though sea conditions can change quickly on this coast exposed to Atlantic swells. It's a place that invites strolling among rocks and direct contact with the volcanic shoreline more than a typical beach day.

The area is open access and usually receives visitors seeking a largely untransformed natural environment. The landscape, dominated by black lava and the contrast with the water, offers a representative image of the island's north, without tourist services or conventionally developed zones.
