Cuatro puertas
On Montaña Bermeja, about three kilometers from Telde, you'll find Cuatro Puertas, an archaeological site of Gran Canaria's pre-Hispanic culture. Its name comes from the four entrances that lead into a large artificial cave carved by hand into volcanic tuff, located roughly three hundred meters above sea level.
This cluster of caves was excavated by the island's first inhabitants and offers insight into the techniques and way of life of the ancient Canarians. From the mountainside, wide views unfold from the mountainous inland terrain to the coastline. The site stands just four kilometers from Gando airport.
The ground features uneven slopes and narrow paths, with spiny vegetation present, so sturdy footwear is advisable. You can walk through the complex comfortably in a short time and explore a significant example of Gran Canaria's archaeological heritage.
