Roques de Anaga

Roques de Anaga

The Roques de Anaga are two rocky islets rising from the sea off the northeast coast of Tenerife, at the tip of the Anaga Massif. The larger one, Roque de Tierra, reaches approximately 180 metres in height, an impressive vertical formation dominating the seascape of this area.

Both islets are difficult to access and are protected for their natural value. Colonies of petrels and specimens of the Canary Islands giant lizard live here, protected species that find refuge on these rocks far from the coast. Dragon trees and other plant species adapted to the extreme conditions of wind and salinity grow on the upper part of Roque de Tierra.

You can spot the Roques from several points along the Anaga coastline or from boats touring this coast. Their silhouette against the ocean is one of the most recognisable profiles of the northern tip of the island.
