Plaza de la Candelaria
Plaza de la Candelaria is one of the historic squares in the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife's old town. This urban space takes its name from the patron saint of the Canary Islands, the Virgin of Candelaria, and has served for centuries as a meeting point and reference for the city's social and administrative life.
At the centre of the square stands the monument to the Triumph of Candelaria, a Carrara marble column erected in 1768 that represents one of the oldest religious symbols in the city. The surrounding area features buildings from different periods, from historic structures to 19th and 20th-century constructions that reflect the architectural evolution of Santa Cruz.
Here you'll also find the Palacio de Carta, an 18th-century manor house, and nearby you can walk pedestrian streets that connect to other iconic squares such as Plaza del Príncipe. It's a good starting point to explore the historic centre of the city on foot.
