Piscina Natural La Laja
On the coast of Frontera, in El Hierro, you'll find Piscina Natural La Laja, a natural pool formed by volcanic rock that retains seawater and allows bathing in a sheltered setting. The pool is located in a natural area of rugged coastline, typical of this western part of the island, where the Atlantic Ocean constantly shapes the landscape.
To reach the pool you need to descend some stairs from the viewpoint level and follow the path to the right. Next to the bathing area there is a space equipped with tables and a barbecue area, common in the natural pools of the Canary Islands, which allows you to spend several hours at the site. Access and water conditions depend on the state of the sea; with strong waves or rough seas, swimming is not safe.
Piscina Natural La Laja is part of El Hierro's system of coastal pools and rock pools, an island where volcanic relief and the force of the sea have created several similar bathing spots. Its location in Frontera, a municipality that occupies much of the western part of the island, places it on a less populated stretch of coast with marked volcanic landscape.
