Faro de Morro Jable

Iconic BuildingsWhat to see and do

The Faro de Morro Jable, also known as Faro de Punta del Matorral, stands at the southern tip of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of Pájara. Its 59-metre tower makes it one of the tallest lighthouses in the archipelago, visible from much of the island's southern coast.

Built in 1991, this lighthouse marks the point where the long Matorral beach curves towards the Atlantic Ocean. Its location within a protected natural area, surrounded by dunes and a wide coastal landscape, makes it a landscape landmark of Jandía. From its surroundings you can see the line where pale sand meets the deep blue of the sea.

The area around the lighthouse is easy to reach and forms part of popular hiking and running routes in the zone. The lighthouse's architecture, with straight lines and a white shaft, stands out against the horizon of dunes and open ocean, and has become one of the most recognisable images of southern Fuerteventura.
