El Peñon del Fraile

El Peñón del Fraile is one of the most emblematic and photogenic spots in Puerto de la Cruz, a natural viewpoint built atop an impressive volcanic rock that emerged from an eruption in 1430. Located on Avenida Luis Lavaggi, this place holds special meaning for locals and owes its curious name to a friar from Icod de los Vinos who frequently climbed down to this rock to pray overlooking the ocean.
