Caleta de La Barra

BeachesOutdoors / Nature

Playa La Barra is part of a series of small coves stretching south from the lighthouse of El Cotillo, on Fuerteventura's northwest coast. Here you'll find patches of golden sand sheltered by volcanic rock formations that break up the shoreline, creating more secluded spots less exposed to the prevailing northeast wind.

Access is from Urbanización los Lagos, near El Cotillo. The orientation of these coves provides some natural shelter from the wind, though the terrain does not allow for long beach walks: strips of sand alternate with rocky outcrops that mark the boundaries of each space. The area is quiet and frequented by bathers seeking a retreat from the busier beaches of La Oliva municipality.
