Calderón Hondo

Outdoors / NatureProtected Areas

Calderón Hondo is a 278-meter-high volcano located east of the road from Lajares, in the municipality of La Oliva. It is one of the best-preserved craters in Fuerteventura and a clear example of the island's recent volcanism, surrounded by other volcanic cones that shape the northern landscape.

A trail takes you to the summit, where you can look into the cauldron-shaped crater and observe the reddish substrate contrasting with the surroundings. The path involves some incline, particularly on the way down, so keep that in mind if you're looking for an easy route. The volcanic landscape offers a straightforward view of the island's geology, with no major infrastructure around.
