Itinerary
Puerto de Sta Cruz de Tenerife
Once ashore, walk through the terminal building and leave the port at the barrier. Just beyond it, your guide greets you with a VEXPERIO sign and leads you to a comfortable coach with air conditioning. Settle in for the ride north as your guide introduces Tenerife and the way islanders live today. Please note that there is no restroom on the bus, so use the facilities on board your ship before going ashore.
15 minMirador de La Garañona
Your first photo opportunity awaits on the northern cliffs, at the Mirador La Garañona viewpoint. Below, the coastline stretches away along the Atlantic beneath towering rock walls, with El Arenal beach far down at their foot. Breathe in the sea air and capture the view before the journey continues.
20 minLa Orotava
The journey continues to La Orotava, one of the most beautiful and best-preserved historic towns in the Canary Islands, still full of colonial charm. You'll spend about 45 minutes on a guided walk and about 30 minutes exploring on your own. A short, flat walk from the bus brings you to Plaza de la Constitución, known locally as the "kiosk square" for its neo-Mudéjar bandstand. Your guide points out the Liceo de Taoro, home to a cultural society founded in 1855, and the Iglesia de San Agustín, built by Augustinian friars in the late 17th century, which you see from the outside. Sloping streets and a set of steps then lead to the Quinta Roja gardens, a highlight of the town and your first toilet stop. They rise toward a white marble mausoleum that never received its intended occupant. Afterwards, relax with a drink or hunt for souvenirs.
1.5 hPuerto de la Cruz
Drive on to Puerto de la Cruz, one of the oldest harbor towns on Tenerife's north coast, with traditional Canarian houses and an old fishing port. In the 17th and 18th centuries, its harbor shipped so much of the valley's Malvasia wine that the town became known as the "key to the island". On an orientation walk of about 30 minutes, your guide introduces Plaza del Charco, the lively main square, named after the shrimp pool that storm waves once left here, along with the waterfront and the old fishing harbor. You'll also see, from outside, the Casa de la Aduana, a house from 1620 that later served as the customs office. The rest of your visit, about an hour, is free. Sit down for a meal in one of the town's restaurants (at your own expense), go shopping or take a walk by the ocean.
1.8 hPuerto de Sta Cruz de Tenerife
Climb back aboard for the return to the cruise port after a day of sweeping views, historic streets and time at your own pace. Every tour is timed to your ship's schedule, and your on-time return is guaranteed. You'll step back on board with wonderful photos and memories of Tenerife's north that will stay with you.
