It takes its name of the first Anticipated conqueror of The Palm and Tenerife, don Alonso Fernandez of Lugo, who, at the beginning of the XVIth century, had his residence in this square, in a part of the lot that today occupies the Convent of Holly Catalina. There were celebrated until last century the most relevant public acts: holidays, days of market, processions, bullfights, break of canes (a kind of tilt), execution of sorrow, etc. Though its dimensions have been kept throughout the centuries, its aspect has changed sensitively. The fountain of central marble dates back of 1870. In its perimeter we find the buildings of some of the most important institutions: Town hall, Market, Courts. The Hermitage of San Miguel...
