Monumento A Los Caídos

This enormous shrill monument is located on the Place of Spain, just in front of Cabildo Insulaire. It was paid by a popular signature and created by Tomás Machado in 1.944, although realized by several artists. It is made of stone basalt; It is composed of a big cross under which there is one crypt, closed has its base, and stairs by which we can rise to a Mirador. In the cross there are different sculptures which represent the Homeland, the Fallen and a victory, as well as some bottom reliefs and a fountain. In front of the cross we find the sculptures of two enormous bronze soldiers, of 4m of high and 1.000 kg weighty. Its project Of execution date is 1969 and its first phase was ended in 1976.
