Convento De Santa Clara De Asís Y De San Juan Bautista
The Convent of Santa Clara (Franciscan Order), the first monastery established in the Canary Islands, dates from 1575. The church, devoted to San Juan Bautista, has a beautiful Mudejar moulded ceiling and houses an interesting collection of works or art, including figures of La Dolorosa, San Juan and La Magdalena, brought from the Americas and included in ceremonies of worship in the 18th century. It also contains two canvasses by Juan de Miranda and a group sculpture made up of the figures of El Señor del Huerto, the work of Luján Pérez from Gran Canaria, and Los Apóstoles Dormidos, by Rodriguez de la Oliva.
