Santa Iglesia Catedral or Santa Iglesia Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. During the Saint Week the catedral is converted in devotion center of the population because some fraternity are realizing their procesional walks there. As far as its main part is concerned, Santa Iglesia Catedral is a neogothic catedral and the front of building is neoclassical. Santa Iglesia Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios is the building where Tenerife Diocese is situated and this diocese is dependent on Sevilla archdiocese. The see of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios parish is situated in this cathedral and this cathedral is dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios. La Laguna Cathedral is also considered to be the patron saint of La Laguna city, of Tenerife Island and of Nivariense Diocese. For this reason, this cathedral is also the Mariano shrine of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios parish. This cathedral is the place where the remains of Alonso Fernández de Lugo, who was the conqueror of Tenerife Island and the founder of La Laguna city, are buried. Alonso Fernández de Lugo had a nickname which was that of “El Adelantado”. La Laguna city was declared as World Heritage in 1999 by UNESCO.
