Casa De La Pólvora
The house of the powder, planned in 1756 by the military engineer Francisco La Pierre, to be use as the powder magazine of castles and batteries which formed the Port and the Strong Place of Santa Cruz of Tenerife. The works began in 1756 and came to an end on May 24th, 1758. The building is of a single rectangular floor, 10 x 30 meters, closed by a wall of big thickness and with a vault which cover the monument. Inside of it we could store until 3.000 quintales of powder, which was perfectly preserved without humidity, although being next to the sea. In 1779, so that it remains protected by the sight since the sea and under of the knocks of cannon coming from boats, we built a high espaldón of ground supported by two big walls. The building was given up to the City Council of Santa Cruz of Tenerife, with the castle of San Cristóbal, by the royal Decree of September 20th, 1926.
